Mikhail Dubrovin actualized the main board game of all time and people - "Monopoly", relying on Nizhny Novgorod reality. The result was a gambling economic strategy game in which you can get rich or lose everything, including a goat from Pokrovka.
The original game "Monopoly" was invented in America in 1935, in the midst of the Great Depression, its author was an unemployed, but not discouraged guy named Charles Darrow. In Russia, the "Monopoly" under the name "Manager" began to be sold since 1988 and was a wild success, reinforced by the historical context: the country was just transitioning to a market economy.
Over the past few years, Monopoly has acquired an impressive number of specific versions: there is a Monopoly for fans of the Game of Thrones, there is a children's version about Masha and the Bear, and there is a football version for fans of FC Barcelona.
Today, their own, local versions of "Monopoly" exist in about 15 major cities of the country. The very first appeared in Yaroslavl, the second - in Nizhny Novgorod.
You must first develop, show who you are, do something,
what people will like, and then they themselves will want
to relate to this and participate
In order to create a board game based on the realities of Nizhny Novgorod, the mechanics of the traditional “Monopoly” had to be partially reworked, for example, replacing the streets with sectors and re-developing situational and modernization cards. Here lies the most fun, because all the events of the game are tied to Nizhny Novgorod. As organizations involved TC "Volga", UNN them. N. I. Lobachevsky, hotel "Oka", Milo Club and other well-known enterprises. In the course of the game, different stories happen with them and their owners: at the Milo club, David Guetta plays for the waiter’s salary, launches his own air taxi to the Alfa Future People festival, and those who stroll at the Automobile Plant at night, as always, have to give half the savings to the hooligans.
The participating organizations for the game, according to its creator Mikhail Dubrovin, were selected according to two criteria: they must be famous in the city and, ideally, give their permission to use their names in the game. With the second point, many difficulties arose: some private companies simply refused to participate, and in government structures the process of coordination and interaction was so complicated by all sorts of formalities that it was decided to first include them in the game, and only then, having the finished product, establish cooperation. At the initial stage, assistance was required not financially, but rather in the field of promotion and distribution. There were those who actively supported the project: for example, GC "Electronics", a network of cafes "Samurai", the magazine "Oriole" and a few more who are not indifferent. The game developer says that initially it seemed indecent to ask someone for money: "First you need to develop, show who you are, do something that people like, and then they themselves will want to have a relationship and participate. This normal development. I think that in the future there will even be competition among those who want to be placed in the game, but it’s too early to think about it, and I absolutely do not want and will not turn the game into an advertising newspaper. "
The first edition of 150 copies has long been sold out. Now a second one has been released, improved, revised and supplemented - in the new version they fixed defects, slightly changed the box design and even updated some cards. For example, in the first issue there was such an event: "We received money for the construction of the Molitovsky bridge and flew away to rest in the Maldives," now the card was replaced: "We built a factory for the production of blue fences and flew away to rest."
We are waiting for a lot of work in terms of development and promotion, I want the game to be recognized. By the way, next year the World Cup, and we will prepare for it - I think we will release a special version of our "Monopoly" with a special design and packaging.
What was the hardest? Each stage has its own difficulties. Correctly calculating all the numbers is not easy. A lot depends on them: fines, incentives, modernization - you need to calculate all the combinations in order to play it was interesting. Yes, even assembling the game in its finished form - and that requires responsibility and diligence, because all this comes from the printing house in an unassembled form: for example, a whole pile of the same cards about blue fences, a stack of modernization cards for each organization - all this needs to be packaged. While I and my wife are doing this. Probably, it will be necessary to hire someone, but so far we don’t trust anyone, because I don’t want the person who is joyful to open the game, and there is something missing or something is not assembled there. I am glad that, despite the fact that we have so little promotion, people often write me messages like: hello, I saw the player of HC “Torpedo”, he came with your game. This is very cool.
