10 interior items that have become classics of design

Arseny Leonovich

The well-known architect, designer, artist and founder of the Panacom architectural bureau Arseniy Leonovich, at the request of Life around, chose ten pieces of furniture that can be bought right now, and explained why this is not just furniture, but works of art.

Music Center RR 226

design
Achille and Piero Giacomo Castiglioni

The prototype of this music center is the stereo radio chronograph RR 126, invented by the brothers Achille and Pierre Giacomo Castiglioni back in 1966. He became one of the design symbols of the late 1960s, and at the end of the twentieth century - a rare trophy of collectors. Look at these lapped corners of the geometric modules. Are Apple's design hides hidden here? Now the model is being reprinted with modern options, but the form and idea are the same - a mobile sound-reproducing interior object.

Armchair Carlo Mollino

design
Carlo Mollino

The architect Carlo Mollino worshiped Gaudi's work and preferred the Art Nouveau style, while his contemporaries, brothers Castiglioni and Joe Ponti, promoted modernism. The engine of the work of Carlo Mollino was a deep renaissance eroticism (the architect was known as Turin Casanova). He manifested himself in all the works of this designer-architect-photographer, whether it be racing cars, furniture or interiors. For example, this is a chair. Agree, it can only be enjoyed.

Lightweight

design
Tom Dixon for Foscarini

Amazing, but in my opinion, the work of Tom Dixon, the master of metal lace and copper ingots. Lightweight, a large object, simply dematerializes thanks to the abstract and geometric graphics of the metal structure. And Lightweight was released back in 1995!

Vase

design
Alvaro Aalto, 1936

Vase of the brilliant Alvar Aalto. It was first presented in 1937 at the World Exhibition in Paris and immediately became an icon of design. There are many versions about the source of inspiration. Some believe that the vase follows the outline of the rear of the Eskimos, while others (and most of them) see the contours of one of the Finnish islands here. One thing is obvious: a vase is a harbinger of bionic design, it feels a balance between nature and man. A vase is always good - in and of itself and with flowers that fit into this glass landscape is always different.

Tabletoplamp fato

design
Joe Ponti, 1969, Artemide

Table or wall lamp, a presentiment of minimalism as a style. Everything is enclosed in a geometric metal frame: light and shadow, a light screen and a bright light source. Fato is a work of contemporary art: it is a luminous sculpture or a light painting in a frame.

Bookcase Veliero

design
Franco Albini, Cassina

The experimental thing is a bold challenge to the laws of equilibrium. For me it is like a bridge over the abyss, not a place for books. But seriously, we have a real architectural structure in the style of retrofuturism in the framework of one interior. It is interesting that architect Franco Albini made the Veliero shelving for his own home in Milan back in 1939.

Spider's Thread Chair

design
Tokujin Yoshioka

At first glance it is difficult to imagine such a chair in a residential interior. Rather, it fits the space of an art gallery. Tokujin Yoshioka grows his stool with crystals. As a spider makes its web, so the organic process of crystallization forms a chair. And the artist only tells nature the direction of creativity.

Lighting system '38'

design
Omer Arbel for Bocci

I recommend to all lovers of home flora. Flower pots and conservatories cannot be compared to the "hanging gardens of Babylon" by Omer Arbel. In his glass spheres there was a place for both a lamp and a flower pot with living plants. The theme of the decor of living plants was very relevant this season. But Omer Arbel succeeded not only decoratively, but functionally and lively.

Modular sofa Misfits

design
Ron Arad, Moroso

Ron Arad's sofa, released in 2007, has already become a cult model in the Moroso range. It can be compared with the soft landscape, which form the modules of irregular, curved shape. They are cut from the foam of a new technological material. The landscape is created depending on the mood and urgent needs - the modules are compiled in a free order.

Heterofocus fireplace

design
Focus

Romantic ideas about a cozy house can not do without a fireplace. Today, their choice is huge, from the fireplace-TV to the bio-fireplace in the bank. But living fire will not replace anything. I have a favorite fireplace - Heterofocus. Original in its simplicity form (inverted ax), brutal and at the same time noble material - non-hardened steel with a matte sheen. Fire ignites this whole “clumsy” construction from the inside. With a closed firebox, the fireplace looks like an industrial sculpture.
