6. Life around employees are trying to get a job
Mass layoffs of employees have not yet begun, but some companies have already begun to optimize the staff, getting rid of unnecessary marketers, secretaries and other specialists, whose services, in principle, can be dispensed with. Where are these people going? By order of Life around, Job.ru website analyzed its vacancy database and found that unemployed PR managers often place resumes for sales managers, curators or teachers, HR specialists want to work as accountants, personal assistants or psychologists, and bank transaction managers as collectors or economists, secretaries - assistants, sales managers or supply managers. But not the fact that they will be in demand in an adjacent area.
We asked representatives of companies and personnel services to talk about where representatives of not very popular and promising professions could go to work.
Marina AdlerHead of HR at Intouch Insurance Company
From doctors to insurers
In connection with health care reform, a significant number of specialists with medical education are being reduced. In my opinion, the insurance industry may become one of the potential areas of medical transition. For us, these are the most valuable potential candidates. We sell insurance products, such as travel abroad, and also offer accident insurance. Just to settle insurance claims on these products, we are always looking for candidates with medical education and experience.
In general, insurance is a very hospitable business segment for specialists of various professions. It is not always important for us whether a person worked in an insurance company before joining us or not - we are always ready to invest our time in training a novice specialist. For example, we are pleased to invite everyone who is willing to work on the phone with the customers of our company. We have many examples of a successful career: former teachers, professional confectioners, and beauty consultants became excellent sellers.

From Journalists to Urbanists
Among the vacancies that are open in our company, there are those for which we are ready to consider candidates without work experience. For example, call center operators, cartographic engineers, advertising managers. And by the way, we recently opened a job as an urbanist in our Moscow office - we need specialists in cities. These are people who are well-versed in the city, know it like the back of their hand and will help us more accurately assess the quality of city services, or rather formulate the tasks that lie ahead. This is a new position for our company, but very interesting and promising.
You can leave the profession from the unclaimed profession in the field of sales, here specialists are almost always needed. One can come into this sphere without experience, but ultimately achieve high results. Call center operators and, for example, cartographers can grow into team leaders and entire directions. In addition, given the regional, and now already international scale of the company, we can offer employees with experience in our company moving to open vacancies in the production sector in branches and franchisees. For example, in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Prague or Santiago.

From system administrators to employees of IT corporations
System administrators are not among the first candidates for dismissal, but the career prospects in this profession are small. But they can apply for positions in a professional service, for example, in a system integrator (adaptation of software products to the needs of specific customers, deployment and installation on the customer’s territory), in companies that develop their own software products — for the positions of specialists in migration and upgrades. In the first case, in addition to English, you will need to have a good knowledge of the server side of system administration, to understand the specifics of hosting and databases. If you want to retrain into testers, then knowledge of testing methods and a basic understanding of programming languages will be useful. There is only one universal advice - choose what is interesting to you, and then delve deeper into the topic. If the subject matter is not interesting, then there is little chance of success: sooner or later the employer feels it, and you live with it every day.
At the Parallels Novosibirsk office, we began to prepare system administrators for work in the software product support service. For candidates who successfully completed a technical interview, we offered to study English in our office. So we got the opportunity to evaluate their communication skills in a real environment before hiring. The English school for system administrators lasts two to three months. Each engineer can delve either into the technical part, or into the consulting, and someone can go on a management path. In addition, we periodically open narrow specializations, for example, specialists responsible for monitoring the quality of service. In the product support service, on average, you can earn more than in the field of system administration.

From the seller of tours to call center operators
Employees of the tourism industry, daily communicating with a variety of, sometimes difficult customers, can find themselves in sales and client work in other areas. Their experience, a high level of stress tolerance, the ability to communicate, propose an optimal solution in a clearly defined time frame and solve difficult situations will be in demand in those industries that will suffer less than others in a crisis. For example, you can try to work in the call center of a telecommunications company or retrain as a medical representative.
Another possible option is to pay attention to the sphere of online trading and Internet marketing. After all, to consult a potential client regarding the choice or promotion of goods is no more difficult than choosing the “perfect tour”.
If you are still a young specialist, it's time to think about learning the professions of the future. A lot of interesting things will happen in mobile technologies, medicine, biology and other fields. In addition, it is worth paying attention to the public sector. Leaders with a new, modern mentality have now appeared in the civil service, the culture and remuneration systems are changing. And this sector is the most stable in terms of employment.

From marketers to sellers
In a crisis, administrative staff, PR, marketing, and HR are being reduced in the first place. The last three specialties are somehow related to sales, promotion, analytics. You can move to simplify the functionality, use the previously developed relationships and reprofile into a seller - engage in direct sales, for example. An employee who worked in the field of communications already has a database of contacts, and he can begin to interact differently on this database. It is only necessary to change the subject and method of this interaction.
If a laid-off person manages to remain in a rational mood and just act, then there is every chance of reaching success and earning even more - in the same business sector, but at a different level. Here, technically, you need to act without being distracted by emotions, and emotions usually in people in crisis, and even after reduction, are not the most positive, people are slipping into reflection.
Evgeny Dyachenko founder of Supl.biz
From scientists to entrepreneurs
I am the founder of four companies, the total staff is now about fifty people, and in some companies I continue to recruit key employees on my own. I went into business after being unclaimed as a scientist.
In 2010, I defended my thesis on physical and mathematical sciences. I studied at Tomsk University, and then a year and a half - in Germany. After the defense, I wanted to enter the postdoctoral studies at the University of Catalonia in Barcelona, but, unfortunately, the crisis hit them especially hard that year, and decided not to open new positions for the postdocs. After that, I decided that now is not the time to do science in Europe, it’s interesting for me to try my hand at business, and in 2011 I opened my first company, the Smartfield Remote Assistance service. Now it employs thirty employees. And also I am engaged in the electronic trading platform for Supl.biz business.
I travel a lot around the world, communicate at conferences with great people and many wonder how they achieved such heights. All answers can be reduced to two. First, do what you like to do. Secondly, do not be afraid to change the scope of activity.
